Former Ondo State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, has joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), alongside other political figures drawn from the PDP and All Progressives Congress (APC).
The former PDP candidate was formally received into the opposition party at a gathering in Akure, Ondo State, attended by the ADC presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, former Osun State Governor and ADC National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, and other party leaders.
Aregbesola announced Jegede’s defection in a post on his X account on Thursday, saying the Senior Advocate of Nigeria led a group of politicians who moved from the PDP and APC into the ADC.
The reception was held at NEPA Park in Akure, where Jegede, his supporters and political associates were formally welcomed into the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Aregbesola wrote: “Today, I joined the Presidential Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Alh. Atiku Abubakar, GCON, and other party leaders to receive decampees led by Balogun Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, alongside other political figures from the APC and PDP, into our great party,”
He added, “The grand reception took place at NEPA Park, Akure, Ondo State.”
Jegede previously contested the Ondo State governorship election on the PDP platform and has remained a prominent figure within the state’s opposition politics. His movement to the ADC comes as political parties intensify mobilisation and realignment ahead of the 2027 elections.
The Akure event brought together several ADC leaders and supporters as the party continues to expand its political structure in Ondo State. (Premium Times Nigeria)
