The All Progressives Congress (APC) will formally inaugurate its presidential campaign council for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid on October 14, ahead of the campaign’s official flag-off in Kaduna State on October 24.
Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, disclosed this on Friday after meeting with Tinubu at the State House, Abuja.
Yari, a former governor of Zamfara State, said the President had approved the proposed timetable for campaign rallies and visits to states ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to him, the campaign council’s inauguration will take place at the State House Banquet Hall, while Kaduna will host the official flag-off 10 days later.
“The President asked for me to come and brief him on where we are, and to discuss the timetable for the state visits,” Yari said.
He added that the campaign team had agreed on the proposed schedule with the President, who had also approved the planned activities.
Yari said the campaign would move to Port Harcourt, Rivers State, after the Kaduna flag-off, before proceeding to Maiduguri, Borno State.
He noted that the full itinerary would be released after the inauguration of the campaign council.
On the opposition’s prospects in the 2027 presidential election, Yari dismissed suggestions that Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) could defeat Tinubu.
He argued that winning the presidency required broad national support rather than strength concentrated in a particular region.
Yari challenged the opposition candidates to demonstrate significant political influence beyond their respective strongholds, claiming that Tinubu enjoyed the backing of more than 20 states.
“Can the ADC candidate today in the southern part of the country beat his chest and say he has control of one state in the South? And I don’t think Peter Obi, who used to be my colleague, can beat his chest and say he has control of one state in northern Nigeria,” he said.
The APC campaign chief cited the 2011 presidential election, in which the late former President Muhammadu Buhari secured substantial support in northern Nigeria but lost the national contest, to underscore his argument that regional popularity alone was insufficient to secure victory.
Yari also defended the Tinubu administration’s performance, saying the ruling party would focus its campaign on what it considers the government’s achievements rather than promises of future action.
“President Bola Tinubu, since the time he assumed office, has turned around the situation that he met on ground; still, the economy is moving,” he said.
He added: “We have done enough that we can tell our opponents about what we did. We are not promising. We are doing it, and we are going to continue.”
Yari was appointed Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council in August 2026 to coordinate the party’s mobilisation and campaign activities for Tinubu’s re-election bid.
