The African Democratic Congress, ADC, Zamfara State chapter, has criticised the All Progressives Congress, APC, for holding a political solidarity walk in Gusau amid the persistent security challenges affecting communities across the state.
The criticism followed a 7-kilometre procession organised by the APC and its support groups in the Zamfara State capital on Wednesday to celebrate the appointment of former Governor Abdul’aziz Yari Abubakar as Director-General of the party’s Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 election.
Reacting in a statement issued on Thursday, Zamfara ADC Chairman, Hon. Kabiru Garba, questioned the appropriateness of the celebration at a time when many residents are dealing with the consequences of insecurity.
According to the ADC, communities across Zamfara continue to endure bandit attacks, killings and kidnappings, while displacement and the destruction of livelihoods have further compounded the hardship faced by residents.
The party argued that the APC gathering presented an opportunity to draw wider attention to the plight of those affected by the security crisis rather than being centred primarily on a political appointment.
The ADC further asked why the event did not include a similar show of solidarity with families who had lost relatives to violence or with women and children forced from their homes by insecurity.
It also demanded an explanation from the APC on the concrete steps being taken by the Federal Government to bring a lasting solution to the security crisis in Zamfara.
The opposition party maintained that political leadership should be measured not only by appointments and campaign activities but also by its commitment to protecting citizens and improving their welfare.
While clarifying that it was not against political mobilisation, the ADC said the situation called for greater sensitivity to the realities confronting residents.
The party described the approach as “politics without humanity”.
