Brighton & Hove Albion winger Zadok Yohanna will miss Nigeria’s opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau due to injury, CSONews24 reports.
Yohanna has been sidelined after suffering a fitness setback that is expected to keep him out until after the September international break.
Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler confirmed that the 19-year-old needs time to recover and adapt to the demands of Premier League football.
The injury setback is another blow to Yohanna’s hopes of making his senior international debut after he previously missed Nigeria’s Unity Cup squad in May due to a hamstring problem.
Nigeria will host Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, on September 25 before facing Guinea-Bissau in Morocco four days later.
Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle is expected to rely on other attacking options as Nigeria begin their campaign to qualify for the 2027 AFCON, which will be hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
