Wike Declares Support for Tinubu, Urges Rivers Residents to Back Re-election Bid

Barr. Nyesom Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has called on political stakeholders and residents of Rivers State to rally behind President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term in office ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Wike made the appeal during a meeting in Port Harcourt with supporters of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and youth leaders aligned with the governor.

The minister said Rivers State could strengthen its political influence at the federal level by delivering substantial votes for Tinubu, noting that electoral support could improve the state’s chances of securing key political appointments and attracting infrastructure development.

He urged party loyalists, youth organisations and community leaders to set aside past disagreements, forgive previous mistakes and unite behind the president’s re-election campaign.

According to Wike, cooperation with the Federal Government would help preserve Rivers State’s relevance in national politics and position it to benefit from opportunities arising from the administration.

He said: “Politics is about figuring out where the state stands to gain the most power. Tinubu is the only thing I wish to hear in this state.

“If we continue to act the way we are now, and if we are among the first three states to receive the most votes, we will get more of these positions

The remarks underscore Wike’s push for Rivers State to demonstrate strong electoral backing for Tinubu in 2027, with the minister linking the state’s voting performance to its prospects of gaining greater representation and influence in the federal government.
