South African singer, Tyla, has removed Lagos from the list of cities for her upcoming A pop World Tour, following backlash linked to concerns over xenophobia and reactions surrounding her planned performance in Nigeria.
The Grammy-winning artiste’s decision to exclude Lagos from the tour itinerary has sparked mixed reactions among fans, with some Nigerians expressing disappointment over the development.
The move comes amid renewed discussions around xenophobic sentiments involving South Africans and Nigerians, with critics questioning whether the controversy influenced the change in the tour schedule.
Tyla, known for her global hit songs and rising influence in the international music scene, had been expected to bring her tour to Lagos as part of the African leg of her performances.In a statement shared on his Facebook page, VeryDarkMan wrote: “Tyla Show Will Not Be Happening In Nigeria.
“This is a message to South Africans. We are Africans and we don’t unalive our own, since you people have taken it upon yourselves to unalive other Africans because according to you guys other African nationalities living in South Africa are taking your jobs.
“We are standing in solidarity to say no to the promoters and celebrities from South Africa who have refused to speak up against these attacks on other Africans living in South Africa.

Tyla’s decision to remove Lagos from the tour schedule comes amid renewed concerns over the safety of Nigerians residing in South Africa, following reports of fresh xenophobic attacks and the deaths of Nigerian nationals, including Chika Ibe in Cape Town.
However, the removal of the Nigerian city from the tour list has generated debate among music lovers, with some calling for better cultural relations between both countries while others urged artists to remain sensitive to diplomatic and social concerns.
The Apop World Tour is expected to continue across other scheduled locations, as Tyla’s team has not provided further details on the circumstances surrounding Lagos’ exclusion.
