Three sisters from the same family and Yalwan Rugu-Rugu community in Tudunwada Local Government Area of Kano State have died after a boat they were travelling in capsized on Tiga Dam.
The incident occurred at about 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, according to information contained in a statement issued by the Chairperson of Tudunwada Local Government Area and Chairman of the Association of Local Government Chairmen in Kano State, Hajiya Sa’adatu Salisu Soja Maijama’a.
According to relatives of the victims, the three women were on board the boat when it overturned in the Tiga Dam, resulting in their deaths.
The deceased were identified as Murjanatu, Atikatu and Bilkisu, popularly known as Amira. All three were members of the same family from Yalwan Rugu-Rugu.
The local government chairperson expressed condolences to the bereaved family and residents of the community over the tragedy.
She also prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and urged the affected family and community to accept the incident as an act of God.
The incident has again drawn attention to the risks associated with water transportation, particularly during periods when residents rely on boats to navigate communities around major dams and waterways.
