The Ogun State Police Command and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control ,NAFDAC, have commenced a joint enforcement operation to tackle the production and sale of prohibited alcoholic beverages across the state.
The operation, which began in Abeokuta, is aimed at enforcing regulations governing the production, distribution and sale of alcoholic products, particularly beverages packaged in sachets and small PET bottles.
NAFDAC’s Ogun State Coordinator, Akinwale Fagoroye, led a delegation to the office of the state Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, where both agencies agreed to strengthen collaboration on the enforcement exercise.
Fagoroye said the operation would be extended across the state until full compliance is achieved, urging manufacturers, distributors, retailers and other stakeholders to comply with regulatory requirements.
“The target is to remove from circulation alcoholic drinks packaged in sachets and PET bottles below 200ml.” He stated.
The enforcement teams are expected to inspect markets, motor parks, bars, warehouses and production facilities, with prohibited, fake, unregistered, adulterated or expired products liable to seizure.
“The enforcement is aimed at preventing unlawful sale and distribution of alcohol and curbing activities that could endanger public safety, especially those exposing young people to harmful practices.” He said.
Ojajuni pledged continued police support for the operation, stressing that the collaboration was necessary to protect residents and ensure compliance with laws regulating alcoholic products.
“The Ogun State Police Command remains committed to supporting lawful regulatory enforcement and other government efforts aimed at protecting lives and safeguarding the well-being of residents.” The CP concluded.
The agencies warned that businesses found violating the regulations would face appropriate sanctions in line with the law.
