The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress ,NDC, Peter Obi, has explained his decision to attend the launch of the Allied Peoples Movement ,APM, campaign office associated with Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.
Obi disclosed this in a post on his verified X handle on Tuesday.
Obi said his presence at the event was not an indication of a political alliance or a decision to abandon his party ahead of the 2027 general election.
The former Anambra State governor explained that he attended the ceremony out of respect for Makinde and in recognition of the importance of maintaining cordial relationships with political stakeholders.
He stressed that attending the event should not be interpreted as an endorsement of another political platform or as a shift in his political position.
“Let us compete on ideas that will unite our people, improve their lives, and restore hope to our nation, while maintaining respect, decency, and love for one another.
“I congratulate my dear brothers, Governor Seyi Makinde and Governor Bala Mohammed, as well as all the leaders and members of the APM, on this important mileston.” Obi wrote.
Obi said his focus remained on providing Nigerians with credible leadership and working towards a better country ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
He also maintained that political differences should not prevent leaders from maintaining mutual respect and engaging constructively in the national interest.
His clarification comes amid speculation over his political engagements and possible alliances as parties and politicians intensify preparations for the 2027 elections.
