The Nigeria Democratic Congress ,NDC, has denied allegations that aspirants were required to make illegal payments to secure party tickets, insisting that its candidate selection process was transparent and guided by established procedures.
The party, in a statement on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, said claims of financial impropriety and favouritism were intended to damage its reputation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The NDC explained that its operations were funded through contributions, levies and donations from members, aspirants and supporters, with payments made into the party’s designated account and properly documented.
It also rejected claims that its National Leader personally demanded or received money from aspirants, stressing that no funds were paid to him for personal use.
On candidate selection, the party said it did not sell its tickets, noting that some aspirants were given nominations without payment. It added that its presidential and vice-presidential candidates were selected without charging for the tickets.
The party pledged to account for its finances in line with the Electoral Act and guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
It further challenged anyone alleging that payments were made to individuals outside its official account to provide evidence, promising to investigate credible complaints.
The NDC said it remained committed to transparency, due process and fairness as it prepares for the 2027 elections.
