ABUJA – The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure, NASENI, has commenced the technical bid-opening process for its 2026 capital projects as part of efforts to select qualified contractors for nationwide execution.
The exercise was held on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at the NASENI Auditorium in Abuja. Civil Society Organisations and Non-Governmental Organisations were invited as partners and observers to ensure transparency. CSO News 24 was among the participating organisations.
Speaking during the event Dr.Nonyem Onyechi the coordinating Director of the planning and Business Development Directorate at the National Agency for science and Engineering infrastructure(NASENI) who represented the Executive officer of the National Agency for science and Engineering Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu said that the inclusion of CSOs and NGOs was to promote accountability and credible procurement practices in the selection of contractors for the agency’s 2026 capital projects.
She further assured contractors of transparent process during the selection to ensure competency and professionalism to thrive.
During the session, technical bids for Lots A1 to A5 were opened, announced, and approved at the technical stage. The financial bid-opening stage is yet to commence.
CSO News 24 and other observers monitored the proceedings and the methodology adopted by NASENI in assessing the technical submissions of prospective contractors.
According to NASENI, the technical bid-opening is aimed at determining the competence, capacity, and eligibility of bidders before they proceed to the financial evaluation stage.
The agency noted that stakeholder participation in the process is expected to strengthen public confidence and ensure accountability in the implementation of its capital projects.
The financial bid-opening will take place subsequently. Qualified contractors will then proceed through the remaining stages of the procurement process in line with the Public Procurement Act.
The closing remark was made by Mr. Owaicho Paul ugbaha he stated that’ the ongoing process is part of NASENI’s strategy to engage competent contractors capable of delivering its planned science, engineering, and infrastructure initiatives across Nigeria in 2026.
