Nigerian armed forces have thwarted a kidnap operation along the Kebbi-Sokoto border corridor, overpowering armed criminals and rescuing four victims during a coordinated security operation.
The operation, carried out by security forces deployed to the area, followed intelligence on the activities of suspected terrorists and kidnappers operating within the border communities.
During the encounter, troops engaged the criminals in a gun battle, forcing them to retreat and abandon the victims. The rescued individuals were subsequently secured and taken to a safe location for medical checks and necessary support.
Security sources said the operation is part of ongoing efforts by the military to disrupt criminal networks, restore confidence among residents and protect communities affected by insecurity in the North-West region.
The Kebbi-Sokoto border axis has remained a security concern due to attacks by armed groups involved in kidnapping, banditry and other criminal activities. Authorities have continued to intensify surveillance and combat operations aimed at dismantling such networks.
The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by Operation FANSAN YAMMA to combat terrorism and banditry and improve security across the North-West, particularly in exposed and endangered border communities.
