Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has accused supporters of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) of attacking his community in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
Keyamo alleged that the incident, which occurred on Friday, September 18, involved the destruction of campaign billboards and the looting of shops by individuals armed with dangerous weapons.
According to the minister, the attackers destroyed billboards belonging to Tompolo’s Door-to-Door Campaign Organisation before allegedly invading and looting some shops in the area.
“If it had been the other way round against the APC, the section of the bias Press and so-called human rights groups would have been screaming to high heavens, but since this happened, everywhere is mute.” He said.
Keyamo also alleged that some law enforcement personnel accompanied the attackers, calling for an investigation into their alleged involvement.
“This is the exact point I made when I openly condemned the blockade of Peter Obi’s entourage from entering Benue State. But what happened in Benue is nothing compared to this.” He said.
He said he had advised his supporters against retaliation or taking the law into their own hands.
“The video is clear and the evidence is overwhelming. We have more evidence. The thugs were even accompanied by law-enforcement agents in their payroll.”
He said he had advised his supporters against taking the law into their own hands and announced plans to submit a petition to the Inspector-General of Police this week.
“I have warned everyone not to resort to self-help.” He said.
The minister announced plans to petition the Inspector-General of Police over the incident, urging authorities to investigate the allegations and prosecute anyone found culpable.
Keyamo also compared the incident with the recent blockade of NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi’s entourage in Benue State, saying he had condemned that incident and expected similar attention to the Delta case.
As of the time of the report, there was no response from the NDC addressing Keyamo’s allegations.
