One person was killed while three others sustained injuries after a 34-year-old man allegedly opened fire during a marriage ceremony at Tudun Yola Quarters in Kano.
The incident occurred on August 16, 2026, when the suspect, identified as Rabiu Mukthar, allegedly fired at people gathered at the event.
Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna-Kiyawa, said the suspect and another person were arrested following the incident, while the firearm allegedly used was recovered.
The police said the victims were taken to the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital for treatment. One of them, Aliyu Mustapha, later died, while the other three were receiving medical attention.
According to the police, preliminary investigation indicated that the incident was linked to a disagreement over the music being played at the ceremony.
The suspect reportedly told investigators that he was disturbed by the music and had also heard that troublemakers were heading towards the venue.
Police said investigations are ongoing, adding that the suspects would face prosecution upon completion of the investigation.
