INEC updates NDC leadership, uploads party’s modified logo after court ruling

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has updated its official website to reflect a new logo and revised leadership structure for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), following a Federal High Court judgment in favour of the political party.

Under the updated information published by the electoral commission, Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe is listed as the National Chairman of the NDC, while Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu is recognised as the party’s National Secretary.

INEC also named Mr John Odey as the National Treasurer, with Mainasara Abubakar Sani listed as National Financial Secretary and Reuben Egwuaba as National Legal Adviser.

The commission indicated that the five leadership positions were updated “by court order”, signalling that the changes to the party’s leadership and the modified logo now reflected on the commission’s platform were implemented in compliance with a judicial directive.

The development followed a judgment of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja in a suit between the Nigeria Democratic Congress and INEC.

The case, filed as suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/1814/2026, arose from the party’s request for official recognition of its modified logo and colour design, which was adopted after its first National Executive Committee meeting.

The NDC had approached the court after INEC declined to recognise and upload the redesigned party logo on its official platform.

Delivering judgment on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, Justice J. O. Abdulmalik ruled in favour of the political party and held that INEC’s refusal to recognise the modified logo could not stand.

According to the court, the refusal of INEC to recognise the modified logo was unconstitutional, illegal and amounted to an infringement of the rights of the political party.

The subsequent update on INEC’s website now reflects the NDC’s new logo and the leadership changes affected by the court order.
