ICPC Begins Tracking of N1bn Federal Projects Across Osun

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has commenced the tracking of Federal Government-funded projects valued at more than N1 billion across Osun State.

The ICPC tracking team lead, Mary Oke, disclosed this on Wednesday in Osogbo, saying the exercise was designed to promote accountability, transparency and value for money in the implementation of public projects.

Oke said the exercise would cover the three senatorial districts of the state — Osun Central, Osun East and Osun West.

She explained that the projects under scrutiny include road construction, solar-powered street lighting, skill acquisition and empowerment programmes, as well as other constituency projects funded by the Federal Government.

According to her, the commission would also track grants provided to vulnerable groups, including widows, persons with disabilities and elderly citizens.

Other projects to be assessed include the construction of community halls and renovation of community libraries, among other public interventions.

Oke said the exercise formed part of the ICPC’s mandate to ensure that public resources were judiciously utilised and that government-funded projects were delivered according to approved specifications.

She said the tracking exercise would involve assessing the status and quality of the projects while identifying possible gaps in implementation.

The ICPC official urged relevant stakeholders, particularly community members and civil society organisations, to provide useful information that could assist the commission in its monitoring activities.

She also called on communities to protect completed government projects against vandalism, stressing that citizens had a responsibility to safeguard public infrastructure provided for their benefit.

The exercise, she added, was ultimately aimed at strengthening accountability and transparency while ensuring that government interventions deliver measurable benefits to citizens.
