The National Orientation Agency (NOA), Kebbi State Directorate, has urged Nigerians and residents of the state to remain calm and patriotic amid fluctuations in the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
The Director of the NOA in Kebbi State, Muhammed Nasir Karofi, made the appeal in a statement, attributing the changes in petrol prices to movements in international crude oil prices and the deregulation of the downstream petroleum sector.
Karofi explained that under the deregulated system, domestic petrol prices are influenced by global supply conditions, market replacement costs and foreign exchange factors.
He acknowledged that the price adjustments were placing pressure on households and small businesses but said the reforms were necessary to address the country’s financial challenges and reduce the burden of fuel subsidies on government finances.
According to him, the removal of unsustainable subsidies would allow government to redirect resources towards infrastructure, security, education and social welfare.
Karofi also highlighted measures being implemented by the Kebbi State Government to cushion the impact of the economic situation, including public transportation support, healthcare interventions, security assistance, agricultural programmes and empowerment initiatives for vulnerable groups, women and youths.
He said the state government was also upgrading transport infrastructure and strengthening healthcare services to reduce the effects of rising living costs on residents.
The NOA director urged community leaders, civil society organisations, youth groups and other citizens to exercise patience, rely on verified information and support measures aimed at improving the economy.
Karofi maintained that although the reforms may bring temporary difficulties, their successful implementation would contribute to long-term economic stability and improved public services.
