FG Increases NYSC Feeding Budget, Implementation Begins in 2027

NYSC Corps Members

The Federal Government has approved an increase in the feeding budget for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) during their three-week orientation programme, with implementation expected to begin in 2027.

The Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, disclosed this while interacting with 2026 Batch C Stream One corps members at the Cross River State Orientation Camp in Obubra.

Nafiu said the Budget Office had been informed of the upward review, describing the decision as part of efforts to improve the welfare of corps members during orientation.

“Refrain from resting in public places and avoid sleeping in groups at filling stations, as this makes you easily identifiable.

“Proceed to military installations, police stations or DSS offices, and contact the NYSC hotline,” he advised.

Although he did not disclose the new allocation, the increase is expected to support the provision of meals amid rising food costs.

The NYSC chief also urged corps members to manage their finances wisely, avoid extravagant spending and cultivate a habit of saving.

“Acquire skills in fields that will benefit you, such as cosmetology, traditional hairstyling techniques and similar disciplines,” he said.

He cautioned them against travelling late, advising them to stop their journeys by 6pm and continue the following day where necessary. He also encouraged them to seek assistance from security agencies if they needed a safe place to stay overnight.

Nafiu further urged corps members to acquire practical and vocational skills that could improve their employment prospects and help them become self-reliant after completing their national service.
