FG Increases NYSC Corps Members’ Feeding Budget, Implementation to Begin Next Year

NYSC Corps Members

The Federal Government has approved an increase in the feeding allocation for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) during their orientation course, with implementation expected to begin next year.

The NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, disclosed this while addressing members of the 2026 Batch ‘C’ Stream One at the Cross River State Orientation Camp in Obubra.

Nafiu explained that the Budget Office had been notified of the upward review, paving the way for the adjustment to take effect as planned.

Beyond the feeding allocation, the director-general urged corps members to manage their finances prudently, shun unnecessary spending and develop a consistent savings culture.

He also commended Nigerian youths for their resilience and dedication to national service, stressing the importance of protecting themselves, particularly when travelling.

Nafiu advised corps members to avoid travelling after 6 p.m., recommending that they suspend their journeys and continue the following day instead.

He cautioned them against resting in public spaces or sleeping in groups at filling stations, warning that such practices could make them easy to identify.

“Refrain from resting in public places and avoid sleeping in groups at filling stations, as this makes you easily identifiable.

“Proceed to military installations, police stations or DSS offices, and contact the NYSC hotline,” he advised.

The NYSC chief also pledged to intensify engagement with relevant stakeholders to facilitate the establishment and rehabilitation of infrastructure at the Obubra Orientation Camp.

He encouraged participants to complement their academic qualifications with practical and vocational skills that could improve their employment prospects and provide opportunities for self-reliance.

“Acquire skills in fields that will benefit you, such as cosmetology, traditional hairstyling techniques and similar disciplines,” he said.

Earlier, the NYSC Cross River State Coordinator, Mrs Adejoke Oyenuga, described Nafiu’s visit as a practical demonstration of his commitment to the welfare of corps members.

Oyenuga disclosed that 1,064 corps members had been registered at the camp, adding that all had successfully adjusted to its structured routine and environment.
