FCT Police Nab Man for Raping, Impregnating Teenage Girl

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested a man, identified as Zayyanu Halilu, for allegedly raping and impregnating a 12-year-old girl in Abuja.

The suspect was arrested on Friday, October 2, 2026, by operatives of the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit during a routine patrol around the Airport Bridge Taxi Park.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, saying the officers became suspicious after noticing a navy-blue Volkswagen vehicle with registration number KMC567LQ parked at the location with its windows fully wound up.

According to her, the vehicle was observed shaking, prompting the officers to approach and inspect it.

“On opening the vehicle, the officers discovered one Zayyanu Halilu allegedly raping a 12-year-old minor,” Adeh said.

She added that the suspect was immediately arrested while the victim was rescued from the vehicle.

Preliminary investigation, according to the police, indicated that the suspect had allegedly lured and sexually abused the girl on several occasions in the same vehicle parked at the location.

The suspect was also alleged to have threatened to “deal with her” if she disclosed the abuse to anyone.

Adeh said a medical examination subsequently revealed that the victim was about three months pregnant, allegedly as a result of the abuse.

The police spokesperson said the victim is currently receiving medical care and undergoing further assessment, while the suspect remains in police custody.

She added that the suspect would be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.

The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and pay close attention to the whereabouts, safety and welfare of children under their care.

The command also urged residents to remain security-conscious and promptly report suspicious activities or persons to the nearest police station or through its emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08028940883.
