Edo LG Chairman Bans Commercial Drivers from Wearing Opposition Caps at Motor Park

APC

The Chairman of Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State, Blessing Albert, has warned commercial drivers against wearing caps or displaying political materials associated with opposition parties at motor parks in the council.

Albert issued the warning at Onitsha Park in Ekpoma while distributing caps branded with the insignia of the All Progressives Congress, according to a video circulating on social media.

In the video, the council chairman warned that drivers found wearing political materials not associated with the APC could be removed from the motor park.

“On no account will I see any driver put on a cap or any material that does not belong to APC,” Albert said.

He further warned that violators could be ordered to leave the park, regardless of their relationship with him.

The chairman linked the directive to the political mobilisation efforts of Governor Monday Okpebholo ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He also referred to Okpebholo’s reported pledge to secure 2.5 million votes from Edo State for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

Albert urged the commercial drivers to support Tinubu and Okpebholo, citing road projects undertaken by the administration as evidence of its impact on their businesses.

The directive effectively restricts commercial drivers operating at the park from displaying campaign materials associated with opposition politicians and parties, including former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi.

The development comes amid increasing political mobilisation by parties and political actors ahead of the 2027 general elections.
