2027: Sowore Vows to Restore Petrol Subsidy

Omoyele Sowore

Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has pledged to restore petrol subsidy and set a minimum wage of ₦500,000 for Nigerian workers if elected in 2027.

Sowore made the pledge in a post on his verified social media account on Monday, amid renewed debate over the removal of petrol subsidy and its impact on Nigerians.

“Attempts to water down our proposal for a N500,000 monthly living wage with funny statistics will not change our position.

“Under our government, Nigerian workers will earn a minimum wage of at least N500,000 monthly. We will also restore the petrol subsidy.

“Workers deserve wages they can actually live on.” The AAC presidential candidate wrote.

He said his proposed minimum wage would provide workers with an income capable of meeting their basic needs, while insisting that the subsidy would be restored under an AAC-led government.

Sowore’s position comes as several presidential candidates outline different approaches to fuel pricing and economic policy ahead of the 2027 election.

While some candidates have advocated forms of subsidy or alternative measures to reduce petrol costs, others have rejected a return to the previous subsidy regime.

Sowore said his administration, if elected, would prioritise workers’ welfare and policies aimed at improving living standards.
