2027: ‘I’ll be the first political casualty if Atiku or Obi defeats Tinubu’ — Wike

Barr. Nyesom Wike, Minister, FCT

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said he expects to be among the first political targets of the opposition if President Bola Tinubu loses the 2027 presidential election.

Wike, who has openly backed Tinubu’s re-election bid, said former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress and Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, would likely come after him because of his unwavering support for the President.

The minister spoke during a media chat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, monitored in Abuja on Wednesday.

Wike said he was fully aware of the political risks associated with his position but remained committed to supporting Tinubu, regardless of the consequences.

He said, “I will be the first politician that I think they will come after. I will be the first politician. I know they will come for my head.”

The former Rivers State governor said his political activities were now largely focused on securing Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

“Each day I sleep, I am thinking about the President’s re-election. When I am eating, I think about the President’s re-election. Everything I am doing now is about the President’s re-election,” he said.

Wike also dismissed criticism over his alliance with Tinubu, saying he had faced considerable attacks and name-calling because of his political position.

He maintained that he was not bothered by the criticism and would continue to support the President.

“I don’t see where anybody in this country today has been called names the way my name has been. I am not bothered about people who say their own thing. My business is, like I said, I am going to support Mr President,” he declared.
