Troops Arrest 18-Year-Old Suspected Bandit Informant in Katsina
Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested an 18-year-old suspected informant for armed bandits who was allegedly gathering information on the deployment, strength and operational capabilities of security forces in Musawa Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The arrest followed credible intelligence on the movement of armed bandits around the Katsina-Kano border, prompting troops to strengthen surveillance and maintain blocking positions across their area of responsibility.
According to a Special Situation Report obtained by Zagazola Makama, residents of Tsaure alerted troops at about 10:25 a.m. on Wednesday, August 19, after noticing a suspicious young man identified as Sa’adu Sama from Girtaji village in Musawa LGA.
The suspect was allegedly seen moving around the community and questioning children about the deployment of security personnel, including the number of troops, vehicles, motorcycles and other equipment in the area.
The children reportedly raised the alarm and informed community elders, who subsequently alerted troops at the Forward Operating Base in Tsaure.
Acting on the report, troops swiftly moved into the community and arrested the suspect.
Security sources said the suspect was subsequently transferred to the Brigade Headquarters for further interrogation and investigation to establish the extent of his alleged involvement with the bandit network.
The development underscores the importance of community vigilance and timely information-sharing in detecting suspicious activities and disrupting criminal networks before they can launch attacks.
The security situation around the Forward Operating Bases and Joint Task Force locations in the area was reported to be calm, while troops continued surveillance and monitoring operations.
The morale and fighting spirit of the troops were also reported to remain high as security forces sustained efforts to prevent bandit activities in the area.
