Former presidential aide and broadcaster, Reuben Abati, has criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his comments concerning President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent trip abroad.
Abati described Atiku’s position as “quite embarrassing,” arguing that the former vice president’s criticism was misplaced.
Atiku had questioned the President’s absence from the country at a time when Nigeria was facing pressing domestic challenges.
Speaking during Arise Television’s ‘Morning Show’ on Monday, Abati said the Atiku camp was raising questions that were embarrassing and had not been properly researched.
Reacting to the remarks, Abati maintained that the President’s international engagements should be viewed within the context of his official responsibilities and diplomatic commitments.
He said political disagreements should not lead to interpretations that misrepresent the purpose of presidential travels or Nigeria’s international engagements.
Abati’s comments have added to the growing political debate over Tinubu’s foreign trips, particularly as political parties and opposition figures intensify their activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
