The Osun State Police Command has taken 10 suspects into custody over separate incidents involving alleged violent crimes in Modakeke, Ife East Local Government Area, and an attack reportedly carried out at the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree.
Four of those arrested were apprehended in Modakeke in connection with allegations bordering on conspiracy, attempted murder, assault occasioning harm and unlawful possession of prohibited firearms.
The suspects — Olufemi Olatunji, 39; Ajayi Idowu, 31; Akingbala Oluwakemi, 40; and Adekunle Basirat, 40 — were picked up by police operatives at about 2am on August 9, 2026, following a petition received by the Commissioner of Police.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, announced the arrests in a statement issued on Wednesday.
Police searches carried out at the suspects’ residences and business premises subsequently resulted in the seizure of two firearms: a locally manufactured cut-to-size firearm and a pump-action gun.
According to the command, the locally made weapon was recovered from Basirat’s shop, while officers found the pump-action gun at Oluwakemi’s residence.
The police further identified Basirat as the wife of Solomon Akinlabi, popularly known as “Indomine”, while Oluwakemi was described as the wife of Akingbala Akindele, also known as “Ostand”.
Meanwhile, a separate operation by operatives attached to the Violent Crime Response Unit led to the arrest of six other suspects over the reported invasion of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree.
The incident, according to the police, involved armed hoodlums and resulted in injuries to two students.
Those arrested in connection with the polytechnic incident were Ajoba Akorede, 27; Adam Oseni, 27; Ogunrinde Ayomide, 21; Ogunlana Muheez, 26; Ajose Noah, 25; and Adeniyi Damola, 25.
The command disclosed that Akorede and Oseni admitted during interrogation to being members of the Aye confraternity.
However, police authorities said they were still working to determine whether the two suspects were students of the institution.
The Osun State Police Command said investigations into the Modakeke and Iree cases were continuing, with prosecution to follow after the investigative process is concluded.
