In a statement issued on Thursday by the National Commissioner and Chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, the electoral body said details of collected PVCs had been published for public scrutiny.
“A table of the PVCs collected, polling unit by polling unit, has been published on the Commission’s website,” Haruna said.
INEC explained that the uncollected cards, representing 18.50 per cent of registered voters, had been secured with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in accordance with established procedures.
According to the commission, “the number of collected PVCs represents 81.50 per cent of all registered voters, while 426,842 uncollected cards, representing 18.50 per cent, have been secured with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in line with its established procedures.”
The commission further disclosed that voters whose cards were reported damaged, defaced or missing had applied for replacement ahead of the election.
INEC said 6,101 applicants successfully printed downloadable copies of their replacement PVCs, allowing them to participate in the August 15 governorship poll.
The electoral body also assured political parties, civil society groups, journalists and residents that arrangements for the election had been concluded.
“We reassure political parties, civil society organisations, the media and the good people of Osun State of our total readiness to conduct a free, fair, credible, transparent and inclusive election on Saturday, 15 August 2026,” Haruna stated.
INEC subsequently appealed to voters who had collected their PVCs to exercise their franchise peacefully by turning out at their respective polling units across the state.
The Osun governorship election comes amid heightened political activity and security concerns, with the leading parties campaigning for control of the state.
The commission urged voters and other stakeholders to conduct themselves peacefully throughout the electoral process.
