Ogun Police Probe ₦11m Robbery, Arrest Woman With 88 ATM Cards
The Ogun State Police Command is investigating two separate incidents involving an alleged ₦11 million robbery in Abeokuta and the arrest of a 30-year-old woman found in possession of 88 ATM cards belonging to different financial institutions.
In the first incident, armed hoodlums reportedly robbed a resident of Soyoye, Abeokuta, of ₦6 million in cash and transferred another ₦5 million from his Opay account before fleeing with his mobile phones and vehicle.
The robbery occurred at about 2:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at the victim’s residence in Soyoye.
The victim, identified as Atobatele Akeem of White House Street, Soyoye, reportedly lodged a complaint with the police at about 7:10 a.m.
According to a security report, about five hoodlums armed with cutlasses invaded the premises and allegedly forced the victim to transfer ₦5 million from his Opay account into different accounts.
The suspects also reportedly collected ₦6 million in cash and took away the victim’s mobile phones before removing his unregistered red Highlander Jeep from where it was parked and escaping with the vehicle.
Following the report, police detectives visited the scene and commenced investigations aimed at identifying the perpetrators, tracing the transferred funds and recovering the stolen vehicle and other valuables.
In a separate incident, police arrested 30-year-old Success Olafemi of Kara Makasia, near the Redeemed Christian Church of God Camp, after she was allegedly found in possession of 88 ATM cards belonging to various banks.
Olafemi was arrested on Saturday following information received by the police at about 10:00 a.m. from a woman identified as Tope Makinde of Iwe-Lepe village along Sagamu Road.
The informant reportedly told the police that the suspect had earlier gone to Ewu-Lisa via Simawa, where she allegedly attempted to lure a seven-year-old girl identified as Jumat, whose surname was not immediately established.
The suspect allegedly used ₦200 notes and sachets of Milo tea to entice the child before she was apprehended.
A search of her belongings reportedly led to the recovery of 88 ATM cards, comprising 25 OPay cards, 13 UBA cards, two Skye Bank cards, seven Keystone Bank cards, nine GTBank cards, 10 Zenith Bank cards, two PalmPay cards, four Ecobank cards and 11 First Bank cards.
Police also recovered ₦7,000 in cash, reportedly in ₦200 denominations, as well as sachets of Milo and Nescafé tea from her handbag.
The suspect was taken to the police station for questioning but reportedly failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for her possession of the large number of bank cards.
The police are also investigating reports that the suspect appeared to be mentally unstable, with detectives examining her background and the circumstances surrounding the recovered items.
The command said the two cases remained under investigation, with efforts ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incidents, identify other persons who may be involved and determine the ownership and possible criminal use of the recovered ATM cards.
