The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has arrested three suspects in Adamawa State over the alleged vandalism and illegal transportation of about 250 NNPC pipeline pipes.
The suspects were intercepted by the Commandant’s Special Squad at Jereng in Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area following credible intelligence on the movement of suspected vandalised pipeline materials.
The NSCDC Public Relations Officer for the state, DSC Amidu Nyako Baba, revealed that the Commandant’s Special Squad arrested the suspects after receiving reliable intelligence about the movement of vandalized pipes.
“They were intercepted at Jereng, Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area of Adamawa State, while conveying 250 pieces of metal pipes, each measuring approximately 8 to 10 feet in length.” The PRO stated.
According to the NSCDC, the pipes, each measuring between eight and 10 feet, were concealed in bags of cassava to disguise the contents during transportation.
“Preliminary investigation indicates that the consignment was loaded at Namnai, Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State, and was being transported to Kano State.” The NSCDC spokesman stated.
The Corps identified Adamu Lawan as the principal suspect, saying he remains at large while efforts are ongoing to apprehend him.
The three arrested suspects are currently in custody and assisting with investigations to establish their roles and determine whether other individuals were involved.
The NSCDC said the operation underscores its commitment to protecting critical national infrastructure and tackling acts of economic sabotage.
