The National Sports Commission ,NSC, has suspended all processes leading to the Nigeria Football Federation ,NFF, Elective Congress scheduled for September 27, 2026, following the resignation of the federation’s top officials, CSONews24 reports.
NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau, General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi and members of the NFF Executive Committee resigned from their positions on Thursday.
Following the leadership changes, the NSC endorsed Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme, the former NFF Deputy General Secretary, to oversee the federation’s secretariat as Acting General Secretary. Dr Ademola Olajire was appointed Acting Deputy General Secretary.
The commission said a fresh electoral process would commence after proposed comprehensive reforms of Nigerian football, to be carried out in consultation with FIFA, CAF, the Federal Government and other stakeholders.
The NSC also directed the leadership of the NPFL, NNL, NWFL and NLO to hand over the administration of their respective leagues to their Chief Operating Officers to ensure continuity during the transition.
The development follows growing concerns over the administration and performance of Nigerian football, including the Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the Super Falcons’ failure to reach the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
