The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has inaugurated reconciliation committees as part of efforts to strengthen unity and address internal concerns ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party’s National Chairman, Moses Cleopas, who inaugurated the committees on Thursday, appointed Professor Pat Utomi as chairman of the reconciliation committee, with Buba Galadima serving as co-chairman.
Cleopas charged members of the committee to carry out their responsibilities with fairness, impartiality, integrity and strict adherence to the party’s constitution.
He urged the committee members to listen patiently, engage widely, reconcile sincerely, recommend boldly where necessary and ensure that justice and the overall interest of the party guide every decision taken.
“Your assignment is not merely to settle disputes; it is to rebuild confidence, restore trust, strengthen unity, and reassure every member that the NDC remains one united family where justice, fairness, equity, and inclusion shall continue to prevail.
“I wish to assure every aspirant that the party deeply appreciates the sacrifices, commitment, resources, and energy invested by all those who offer themselves of service. The fact that only one candidate emerged in each position, does not diminish the leadership capacity or political value of others.
“Indeed, many of those who did not secure nominations remain invaluable assets whose contributions will be indispensable as we take the campaigns ahead, and by the grace of God, form government in 2027.
“Our campaign must therefore be inclusive. Every committed member must have a role to play. Every stakeholder must feel a sense of belonging. Every grievance, honestly expressed, deserves a listening ear.
“I therefore call upon all aspirants, party leaders, stakeholders, supporters, and members across the federation to cooperate fully with this committee,” he said.
The NDC chairman said the reconciliation initiative was aimed at rebuilding confidence among party members, strengthening internal cohesion and ensuring that all stakeholders remain involved as the party prepares for the 2027 electoral contest.
Cleopas further appealed to aspirants, party leaders, stakeholders and supporters across the country to support the committee and cooperate fully with its assignment.
