MTN Warns Subscribers Against Fake 25GB Anniversary Giveaway

MTN Nigeria has warned subscribers against fraudulent 25GB anniversary giveaway offers circulating online, urging customers to access the promotion only through the telecommunications company’s official platforms.

The warning was issued through MTN Nigeria’s support account on X on Saturday, following the circulation of links and posts purportedly offering subscribers free 25GB data as part of the company’s 25th anniversary celebrations.

The telecommunications giant cautioned subscribers against clicking on suspicious links, disclosing personal information or making payments on unauthorised platforms claiming to be offering the anniversary bundle.

MTN said the legitimate 25GB anniversary giveaway was available exclusively through the MyMTN NG App and MTN eShop.

“Please beware of fake MTN 25th Anniversary 25GB giveaway offers circulating online,” the company said.

“The official MTN 25GB Anniversary Giveaway is available ONLY via the MyMTN NG App and MTN eShop.

“Do not click on links, share your personal information or make payments on any other platform claiming to offer the giveaway.

“Only trust official MTN channels.”

In a separate post, the company explained how eligible subscribers could redeem the offer.

According to MTN, subscribers should log into the MyMTN App and select “Redeem Now” on the anniversary banner, or access the offer through the MTN eShop and follow the prompts.

“To access the 25GB offer, kindly visit the MyMTN App or the MTN E-Shop and follow the prompts to activate the bundle, if you are eligible for the offer,” the company stated.

It added that eligible customers could also use the link contained in an SMS notification received from MTN concerning the promotion.

The company further advised subscribers to rely exclusively on information and messages disseminated through its verified communication channels when accessing the anniversary offer.

MTN also stated that the free 25GB data bundle would remain valid until 11:59pm on the specified expiry date, urging eligible subscribers to redeem the offer before the validity period ends.

The warning comes amid increasing circulation of fraudulent online posts and links purporting to offer free MTN data to subscribers under the company’s 25th anniversary promotion.

MTN therefore urged customers to avoid unauthorised websites and platforms that request personal details, payments or other sensitive information in exchange for the purported giveaway.

The company’s warning is aimed at protecting subscribers from potential phishing, identity theft and other forms of online fraud associated with fake promotional campaigns.
