A High Court in Delta State sitting in Ogwashi has sentenced two persons, Desmond Macaulay Oghenemaro and Enaike Onoriode to death by hanging after finding them guilty of the murder of late Miss Elozino Ogege, a student of Delta State University (DELSU) Abraka.
The trial judge held that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt, establishing the defendants’ involvement in the killing of the undergraduate.
CSONews24 reports that the court presided over by His Lordship, Hon Justice F.N. Azinge handed down te judgment on Thursday, July 29.
Delivering judgment, the court convicted the two defendants on the charge of murder and imposed the death penalty in accordance with the provisions of the law.
Meanwhile, a Senior Special Assistant, SSA on Human Rights to the Delta State Governor, Comrade Kelvin Ejumudo has hailed the court judgment.
According to him, “justice delayed indeed is not justice denied.”
Ejumudo, who doubles as the National Secretary, Human Rights Protection Congress, HRPC said, “finally, the voice of the people prevailed.”
The prosecution had presented evidence and witnesses linking the convicts to the crime, while the defence sought to challenge the allegations during the trial.
The judgment brings to a close the prosecution of the case, with the court affirming that the evidence before it supported the conviction and sentence.
The ruling underscores the judiciary’s resolve to ensure accountability for violent crimes and deliver justice to victims and their families.
