The Head Coach of Nigeria’s senior national team, the Super Eagles, Eric Chelle, has formally submitted a 19-point list of conditions to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) as part of negotiations to continue in his role.
Chelle, who signed a two-year contract with the NFF in January 2025, with an optional one-year extension in favour of the federation, has recently been linked with a possible move to Ligue 1 outfit Olympique de Marseille. According to sports journalist Shina Oludare, the Franco-Malian tactician officially presented the document to the NFF on January 22, 2026, following what he described as a detailed review and fact-checking process.
At the centre of the proposal is a request for a monthly remuneration of $130,000, a package that covers the coach, his technical staff and his personal assistant. Beyond salary, Chelle is seeking structured monthly meetings involving all national team coaches to enhance coordination across the country’s football architecture.
The document also outlines several welfare and operational demands, including the provision of a private SUV with a chauffeur and security detail, accommodation in a well-secured environment with uninterrupted electricity supply, and a furnished office equipped with a projector for tactical analysis and reliable internet access. He further requested business-class flight tickets for himself and his wife, economy-class tickets for his two children, GPS support, and adequate training equipment in line with his technical requirements.
On the technical front, Chelle is insisting on full autonomy in team selection and player call-ups without interference. He also seeks the authority to determine international friendly matches based on tactical considerations, the implementation of structured camping programmes, and the issuance of formal working contracts for all members of his backroom staff. The proposal emphasises timely payment of salaries on or before the 30th of every month, bonuses and allowances in accordance with the federation’s structure, and inclusion of his personal assistant in the bonus framework.
Additionally, the coach proposed expanded scouting and developmental initiatives, including regular international travel to monitor Nigerian players abroad and visits to domestic league matches to identify talents for integration into the senior team as well as the U23, U20 and U17 sides. He also expressed readiness to initiate youth development programmes aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s football pipeline.
However, the Nigeria Football Federation has not issued an official response to the coach’s demands, leaving the future of the Super Eagles’ technical leadership hanging in the balance.
