The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has recorded a sweeping victory in the Bauchi State local government elections, securing all 20 chairmanship positions and 319 of the 323 councillorship seats contested across the state.
The results, released by the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) on Monday night, showed that the party dominated the poll across all 20 Local Government Areas.
Only four councillorship positions went to other political parties, with each party winning one ward.
Announcing the outcome, BASIEC Chairman, Hajiya Jummai Abubakar, said the results followed the completion of voting, counting, collation and verification processes.
Among the chairmanship candidates, Umar Mohammed Aliyu recorded the highest vote tally, winning Bauchi Local Government Area with 125,170 votes.
Abubakar Ibrahim Dembo followed with 109,999 votes in Toro, while Bappah Aliyu Mohammed secured Alkaleri with 107,482 votes.
Other notable results saw Ya’u Samaila Sade emerge victorious in Darazo with 67,276 votes, while Yusuf Babayo Zaki won Katagum with 65,626 votes.
Ali Babayo secured Gamawa with 54,423 votes; Sama’ila Wakili Lere won Tafawa Balewa with 46,625 votes; and Habibu Idris Usman took Warji with 43,066 votes.
In Shira, former Majority Leader of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Saleh Hodi Jibir, won the chairmanship race after polling 37,135 votes.
The remaining APM chairmanship winners were Zakka Luka Magaji, who secured Bogoro with 25,282 votes; Iliya Isah, who won Dambam with 19,730 votes; Mohammed Abubakar Jibo, who took Dass with 35,264 votes; and Mohammed Idris M., who won Ganjuwa with 24,150 votes.
Mustapha Alhaji Musa emerged in Giade with 33,864 votes, while Dankawuwa Ya’u secured Itas/Gadau with 24,989 votes. In Jama’are, Inuwa Abdullahi won with 36,766 votes.
Garba Musa took Kirfi with 24,787 votes, Salisu Hussaini won Misau with 34,378 votes, Yahuza Adamu Haruna secured Ningi with 29,387 votes, while Mas’ud Aliyu emerged as the winner in Zaki after polling 19,984 votes.
Four Parties Win One Councillorship Seat Each
Despite APM’s dominance at the councillorship level, four opposition parties managed to secure one ward apiece.
The Social Democratic Party won Dandango Ward in Bauchi Local Government Area, while the National Rescue Movement emerged victorious in Darazo South Ward.
The Zenith Labour Party secured Wandi Ward in Dass Local Government Area, with the Young Progressive Party winning Zirami Ward in Giade Local Government Area.
BASIEC Chairman, Abubakar, said the commission had formally confirmed the successful candidates as duly elected after they met the applicable legal requirements and obtained the highest number of valid votes in their respective constituencies.
She maintained that the exercise was conducted independently and in line with the provisions of the law.
Abubakar also commended Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, for his support to the electoral commission and congratulated residents of the state as well as the newly elected officials on the completion of the local government elections.
