Abel Enitan Urges Directors to Mentor Next Generation of Civil Servants
The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), Mr. Olumuyiwa Enitan Abel, has charged Directorate-level officers in the Federal Civil Service to strengthen leadership, mentorship and accountability in order to improve service delivery.
Abel gave the charge during the concluding session of his staff interaction series with officers of the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF), held at the Office’s Conference Room in Abuja.
The session brought together officers on Grades 15 to 17 and provided an opportunity to align strategic priorities, examine operational challenges and discuss practical measures for improving efficiency and advancing the objectives of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The HCSF described the Directorate cadre as a critical link between policy formulation and effective implementation, urging officers to provide purposeful leadership while promoting accountability, innovation, collaboration and professionalism.
He particularly tasked Directors with mentoring younger officers and deliberately developing the next generation of competent and confident public servants.
Abel also stressed the importance of continuous learning and self-development, urging the officers to remain receptive to new ideas and adopt innovative approaches to resolving administrative challenges.
He said strong institutions depended not only on sound policies but also on leaders who were committed to developing people, strengthening teamwork and ensuring that responsibilities were discharged with professionalism and a clear sense of public purpose.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Common Services Office, OHCSF, Dr. Danjuma Usman Kalba, welcomed the officers to the engagement, describing the HCSF’s direct interaction with staff as an indication of his commitment to inclusive leadership and open communication.
Kalba said the session provided officers with an opportunity to gain deeper insight into the HCSF’s vision and expectations, while also allowing them to share perspectives on operational challenges and areas requiring improvement.
Also speaking, the Director of Human Resources Management and Administration, Mrs. Jennifer Sharang, appreciated the HCSF for the engagement and reaffirmed the commitment of Directorate-level officers to supporting initiatives aimed at building a responsive, productive and people-centred Civil Service.
The interaction marked the third and final phase of the HCSF’s staff engagement series at the OHCSF, following earlier sessions with Junior and Mid-Level Officers.
The series provided officers across different cadres with a platform to engage directly with the HCSF, raise concerns, share operational perspectives and contribute ideas towards strengthening the effectiveness of the Office and improving public service delivery.
