The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Kwara State, Zakari Mohammed, has predicted strong support for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar across the northern region in the 2027 presidential election.
Mohammed, a former member of the House of Representatives, said Atiku was poised to secure the backing of voters across the North, particularly in the North-West and North-East geopolitical zones.
The ADC chieftain made the prediction in an interview on on Thursday, while assessing the political dynamics ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He argued that Atiku’s longstanding political relationships and grassroots networks across the region would give him a significant advantage in the presidential contest.
According to Mohammed, northern voters are increasingly focused on issues such as insecurity, economic hardship and the quality of governance, which he said could significantly influence their choices at the polls.
He maintained that Atiku remained a formidable political figure in the region and could attract substantial support as opposition parties and political actors continue consultations ahead of the election.
“The northern states. I am very sure the northern states will rally around Atiku for so many reasons. Atiku will win the North-West. He will win the North-East,” Mohammed said.
His prediction comes amid ongoing realignments and coalition-building among opposition political forces ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with the ADC emerging as a platform for several prominent opposition figures.
Mohammed said the evolving political alliances and consultations could further shape the strength of opposition candidates as the country moves closer to the election.
However, with the 2027 election still months away, the eventual voting pattern in the North is likely to be influenced by campaign dynamics, candidate selection, political alliances, security conditions and voters’ assessment of prevailing economic and governance issues.
