2027: North Will Reject Tinubu Despite Money, Says PRP Chairman

The National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has warned that Northerners will reject President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, alleging that the administration has neglected and humiliated the region.

Baba-Ahmed also accused supporters of Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) of planning to deploy financial inducements on an unprecedented scale to secure votes in the North.

The PRP chairman made the allegations in a post on his Facebook page, challenging political leaders from Northern states supporting the president to explain their position to their constituents ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He specifically questioned supporters from Zamfara, Kebbi, Sokoto, Katsina, Borno, Yobe, Kwara, Kaduna, Plateau, Kogi and Nasarawa states over their backing for Tinubu’s re-election campaign.

“We know they will share money on a scale never before seen in Nigerian politics. Their problem is that they look down on Northerners. They think they can buy us off and make us forget the humiliation and neglect we have suffered under Tinubu’s administration,” he wrote.

Baba-Ahmed urged Northerners to defend their dignity and resist attempts to influence their political choices through monetary inducements.

He further cautioned against any attempt to manipulate the outcome of the forthcoming election, insisting that voters should be allowed to make their choices freely.

“We will show them that we, too, are human beings with dignity. If we reject the APC and Tinubu, nobody should dare manipulate the election results,” he said.

The PRP chairman, however, acknowledged the right of Tinubu’s supporters to campaign for the president, declaring that the political contest should be open to all parties.

“As for those supporting Tinubu and the APC, you are welcome. We are here, and you are there. Let the contest begin,” he added.

Baba-Ahmed concluded his post with a prayer for Nigerians to be delivered from what he described as oppressive leadership.

Reacting to his remarks, the Kaduna State Commissioner for Information, Ahmed Maiyaki, defended Tinubu’s supporters, expressing confidence in the president’s chances of securing re-election in 2027.

Maiyaki said supporters of the president were prepared to campaign across the country without intimidation or fear.

“We are fully prepared, and we will campaign for Bola Ahmed Tinubu without fear or doubt. And, God willing, Tinubu will win the election,” he said.

The commissioner also rejected suggestions that any individual or group had a greater claim to Northern identity than others, insisting that political differences should not be used to intimidate opponents.

“Nobody is more of a Northerner than anyone else. Whoever tries to intimidate us, we will stand up to them, regardless of how highly placed they are. So, respect yourself,” Maiyaki said.

He urged political actors to focus on promoting their preferred candidates without resorting to divisive rhetoric.

“Campaign for your candidate and allow others to do the same. Don’t be divisive,” he added.

The exchange highlights the emerging political contest ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with rival political figures advancing competing positions on the Tinubu administration’s record and its support base in Northern Nigeria.
