Several chieftains and members of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, in Ogo Oluwa and Surulere Local Government Areas of Oyo State have defected to the African Democratic Congress, ADC, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The defectors, led by Apostle Taiwo Olaleru and Alhaji Bashiru Ganiyu, formally announced their decision to leave the APM at the weekend, citing dissatisfaction with the party and confidence in the leadership prospects of the ADC in the state.
Speaking on the reasons for their decision, Olaleru and Ganiyu accused the APM, which they described as the political platform of the present administration in Oyo State, of operating on what they alleged were deceit and falsehood.
The two political figures said their decision to align with the ADC was driven by their desire to contribute to the party’s activities and strengthen its chances ahead of the 2027 polls.
Olaleru said the group had become convinced that the ADC offered a more credible political alternative and expressed confidence in the party’s governorship candidate, Olooye Adegoke.
“We have discovered that we need to move to a better party and we see the ADC and its governorship candidate, Olooye Adegoke, as a place we should move to and the person we can trust.”
Ganiyu said the new members were hopeful that the ADC would deliver meaningful development and improve the lives of people in their communities.
“We are pleased to be in his party and we prayed that his aspirations to govern the state will be crowned with victory.”
The defectors were formally received into the ADC by the party’s governorship candidate in Oyo State, Chief Adegboyega Adegoke.
Adegoke assured the new entrants that they would enjoy the same rights and opportunities available to other members of the party, stressing that their integration into the ADC would be based on fairness and equal participation.
He also called on them to commit themselves to strengthening the party and working collectively towards its growth as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
